Frequently asked questions

View all questions
How does your pricing work?

Per design, not per hour. You get a fixed quote once the drawing is approved, so a slower, more careful session never costs you more.

Do I need a deposit to book?

Yes, a deposit secures your date and covers the design time. It comes off the final price of the tattoo.

Can I bring my own reference?

Please do. We'll redraw it in the studio's hand rather than copying it, and we'll tell you honestly if it won't age well.

Do you accept walk-ins?

Yes, though booking in advance is better, especially in high season. Custom work is never a walk-in, since it has to be drawn first.

Which placements are riskier?

Fingers, hands, feet, lips, ears, elbows and knees fade faster. We'll walk you through the trade-offs and have you sign a short awareness form.

Is the touch-up really free?

One touch-up after healing is included at any of our three Bali studios. Travel is on you; the work is on us.

Do you tattoo over scars or old work?

Often, yes. Send photos first, cover-ups and scar work need a longer consultation and sometimes more than one session.

What's the minimum age?

21 with valid photo ID. Under 21 we can still tattoo you, but only with a parent's or guardian's written consent, and we keep a copy on file. ID is checked at the studio either way.

How to choose a tattoo studio in Bali

The island has hundreds of studios, and the gap between the best and the worst is far wider than the difference in price. Four things worth checking before you book anywhere — here or elsewhere.

Read the four checks

Ask to see healed work

Photographs taken minutes after the needle always look sharp. Work photographed six months later tells you whether the lines held and the shading settled. Any studio confident in its work keeps healed photos.

Watch the setup

Needles should come out of a sealed single-use cartridge in front of you, and pigment out of a fresh cap. Ask where the autoclave is. A studio that hesitates has already answered the question.

Prefer per-design pricing

Charging by the hour rewards a slow artist and quietly penalises you for asking for more detail. Per-design quoting puts that risk on the studio rather than on your arm.

Read reviews, not follower counts

Instagram measures reach. Reviews measure what people thought once they had paid and healed. Amor Fati holds more than 1,500 Google reviews across Canggu, Uluwatu and Seminyak.

Booking, start to finish

Most people message midweek and are tattooed by the weekend. Here is the whole process, with nothing hidden in it.

See how booking works

1 · Send the idea

Message the studio you want on WhatsApp with your reference, the rough size in centimetres, the placement, and the dates you are on the island. Those four things are all we need to quote.

2 · Get a quote and an artist

You get a price range and the artist whose hand suits the piece — fine line, floral, realism, Balinese ornamental. Larger work gets a consultation rather than a number over chat.

3 · A deposit holds the date

The deposit locks your slot and pays for the drawing. Card payments carry a 3% fee, which we tell you before we send the link rather than after.

4 · The session

You see the drawing before anything becomes permanent, and you can ask for changes. Bring photo ID: the minimum age is 21, or younger with a parent's or guardian's written consent.

Healing a tattoo in a tropical climate

Bali makes healing harder than home does. Heat, humidity, salt water and sun all work against fresh ink for the first fortnight. Plan the trip around it and you keep the piece you paid for.

No ocean, no pool, for two weeks

Submerging fresh ink is the most common way people ruin a tattoo here. Waterfalls, rice paddies and hotel pools all count. Showers are fine.

Keep it out of the sun

Direct sun on healing ink fades it permanently and can blister it. Once healed, sunscreen every time — UV ages a tattoo faster than anything else.

Get tattooed at the end of the trip

Leave it for the last days rather than the first. Two weeks out of the sea and out of the sun is a hard promise to keep on a Bali holiday, and the tattoos that heal worst are the ones that spent their first week in salt water. Book late and it travels home covered up, which is where it wants to be. If you want the free touch-up done here, leave three or four days after the session.

Humidity slows everything down

Expect a little longer than the two weeks a dry climate would give you. Keep it clean and dry, a thin layer of balm, and let it breathe.
