About the helix

The helix runs along the outer edge of the ear. It is firm cartilage, which means a longer heal and more sensitivity to knocks and pressure than a lobe. Done well and left alone, it is one of the most flattering placements there is.

Aftercare for this placement

  • No sleeping on it, a travel pillow with the ear in the hole helps
  • Saline only; avoid alcohol and tea tree
  • Do not change the jewellery yourself before the downsize

Good fit if

  • You want a visible piercing that still reads as understated
  • You can commit to several months of aftercare
  • You do not sleep hard on that side
